ADB-Funded Hulbuk-Temurmalik-Kangurt Highway Opens In Tajikistan

The construction of the highway consisted of two stages, the first stage covered Hulbuk-Temurmalik (33.4 km), and the second stage covered Temurmalik-Kangurt (25.17 km).

On October 20, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon officially opened the rehabilitated Hulbuk-Temurmalik-Kangurt highway. This 60-kilometer highway has been rehabilitated under the financial support of the Asian Development Bank (ADB). The work on restoration of this road reportedly began on November 1, 2021.

On August 30, 2021, an agreement was inked between Tajikistan’s Minister of Transport, Mr. Azim Ibrohim, and the representative of China State Construction Xinjiang Construction Engineering (Group) Co., Ltd, Mr. Ma Yowung. This accord designates the Chinese company as the construction partner responsible for rehabilitating the Hulbuk-Temurmalik-Kangurt highway in Khatlon province. Mr. Azim Ibrohim expressed his confidence in the Chinese company’s ability to execute the project both promptly and to a high standard.

ADB contributed a $67.49 million (USD) grant and the Tajik government’s contribution amounted to $28.1 million (USD).
