China rebukes Japan’s claims on South China Sea, calls for objectivity

China has condemned Japan’s statements on the South China Sea, accusing them of false and misleading claims. China urges Japan to adopt a more objective stance and refrain from exacerbating regional tensions.

China has voiced strong objections to Japan’s recent statements concerning the South China Sea, accusing Tokyo of making false and misleading claims. According to a spokesperson from the Chinese Embassy in Japan, the allegations from Japan’s foreign ministry disregard facts and unjustly target China.

The controversy was sparked by Japan’s recent remarks, which criticized China’s actions and positions in the South China Sea. The Japanese foreign ministry labelled China’s territorial claims and activities in the region as “unilateral” and “escalatory,” suggesting that they pose a threat to regional stability and international maritime order. China, in response, has vehemently denied these accusations, asserting its historical and legal claims over the South China Sea and accusing Japan of meddling in matters beyond its purview.

The spokesperson for the Chinese Embassy highlighted that Japan’s statements are not only misleading but also harmful to the stability and peace in the region. The spokesperson stressed that China has consistently upheld international law, including the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), and has sought to resolve disputes through dialogue and negotiation. According to the Chinese side, Japan’s intervention is seen as an attempt to inflame regional tensions and to align with the interests of non-regional actors, particularly the United States, which has a vested interest in countering China’s influence in the Asia-Pacific region.

China urged Japan to adopt a more objective and impartial stance on the South China Sea issue and to refrain from making baseless allegations that could further complicate the situation. The Chinese spokesperson also emphasized the importance of countries in the region working together to maintain peace and stability, rather than allowing external forces to sow discord and mistrust.
