Chinese special representative attends memorial service for Iran’s late president, affirms strong bilateral ties

Chinese President Xi Jinping’s special envoy, Zhang Guoqing, expressed deep condolences at the memorial for Iran’s late President Raisi, affirming China’s unwavering support and commitment to strengthening bilateral ties.

In a display of solidarity and commitment to bolstering diplomatic ties, Chinese President Xi Jinping’s special representative, Zhang Guoqing, participated in the memorial service for Iran’s late President Ebrahim Raisi in Tehran. The meeting took place on Wednesday.

Zhang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and vice premier of the State Council, conveyed President Xi’s heartfelt condolences following the passing of President Raisi. He emphasised President Xi’s message, which highlighted the significance China places on its relationship with Iran.

Expressing profound sorrow over Raisi’s demise, Zhang extended sincere sympathies to the Iranian government, the people, and the late president’s family. He reassured Iran of China’s unwavering support during this challenging period, expressing confidence in Iran’s resilience in overcoming temporary setbacks.

Highlighting Raisi’s pivotal role in bolstering Iran’s security and stability, Zhang praised his contributions to fostering bilateral cooperation under the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Iran. He lamented Raisi’s passing as a loss for Iran and China, emphasising the enduring friendship between the two nations.

In response, Iran’s Interim President Mohammad Mokhber conveyed gratitude to President Xi for appointing Zhang as his special envoy. He affirmed Iran’s readiness to collaborate with China across various sectors, aiming to elevate their partnership to new heights. As both nations mourn the loss of a respected leader, they remain steadfast in their pursuit of shared goals and prosperity.
