Family suspects foul play as Uttarakhand Merchant Navy Sailor goes missing en route to Turkey

Pinky Saklani has made grave accusations against the company, claiming that they are attempting to portray the incident as a suicide and have ceased communication with the family.

A distressing incident has recently come to light involving Ankit Saklani, an experienced merchant Navy sailor from Dehradun, Uttarakhand, who has gone missing while on a ship heading towards Turkey. The family, suspecting foul play, has sought assistance from the Uttarakhand government and has also reached out to the Turkey Embassy to address this concerning situation.

Ankit Saklani, who possesses over 15 years of sailing experience, joined Elvis Ship Management, a Mumbai-based firm, on December 1. However, merely 10 days after commencing his employment, he began sending unsettling messages to his wife, Pinky, expressing his strong desire to return home.

On December 11, he sent a message to her, stating that if anything were to happen to him, the company would be held responsible. This alarming message raised significant concerns for the family.

Pinky Saklani has made grave accusations against the company, claiming that they are attempting to portray the incident as a suicide and have ceased communication with the family. “The company is distancing itself and labelling it as a suicide. The incident occurred at 11 am, yet they informed me at 5 am on the day when the ship was about to reach the port and my husband was about to complete his signoff. Something seems suspicious. Initially, the company assured us that a search operation was underway for two to three days, but now they have stopped responding to our messages,” she expressed with concern, according to NDTV.

Following recent events, Ankit’s brother has penned a letter to Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, urging him to initiate an inquiry into the matter. The family suspects foul play and doubts that the company is being completely transparent. They are eagerly awaiting any updates on Ankit’s whereabouts and fervently hope for his safe return.

Ankit Saklani, a resident of Dehradun and a father to a four-year-old daughter, is currently the centre of his family’s distress. They are enduring a challenging period and desperately anticipate some positive news. This incident has raised concerns about the safety of sailors and the accountability of companies in similar circumstances.

The family earnestly awaits a comprehensive investigation into the matter, firmly believing that the truth will be unveiled and justice will prevail. This incident serves as a poignant reminder of the hazards faced by sailors and the imperative need for stringent safety measures and protocols.
