A tragic incident occurred in Balochistan’s Wadh area on Tuesday, resulting in the loss of a child’s life and injuries to eight other children due to a hand grenade explosion. According to Levies sources, the hand grenade detonated within a madrassah situated in the Zarchain area of Wadh Tehsil in the Khuzdar district. One child lost his life while eight others were left severely injured.
As per Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Abdul Manaf in Wadh, it has been reported that a group of children from a madrassah were engaged in playing with a hand grenade, which unfortunately detonated, leading to several casualties. He also mentioned that the injured individuals were promptly transported to a nearby hospital in Wadh. Additionally, two of the injured were in the process of being transferred to a hospital in Khuzdar, but tragically, one of them passed away due to their injuries during the journey, according to Manaf.
In the previous month, a similar incident occurred in Sindh’s Kashmore district, resulting in the loss of nine lives, including four children, and leaving one woman injured. The incident occurred due to the explosion of ordnance from what was described as a “rocket launcher” inside a house.
In April of the same year, near Chaman, a man died due to a grenade explosion. The incident unfolded when the man discovered a hand grenade and began playing with it. Just two days before this incident, three children lost their lives in an explosion within the same area, as they were playing with an object.
The injured were sent right away to a nearby hospital in Wadh. Law enforcement organizations and police sealed off the area and started a thorough investigation.
The recurrence of such incidents underscores the need for public awareness and education, particularly regarding the dangers of handling explosives and unfamiliar objects, to prevent further tragic occurrences in the future. Law enforcement and authorities must also take appropriate measures to address the use of dangerous materials.
