
The Foreign Minister of Iraq, Fuad Hussein, engaged in a meeting with his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov, during their participation in the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly held in New York.
The official statement released by the Iraqi Foreign Ministry highlighted the discussions, which primarily revolved around the prospects for joint cooperation and the further development of bilateral relations between the two nations.
Minister Hussein conveyed that Baghdad is diligently working on preparing for the upcoming visit of Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani to Moscow, which is anticipated to take place in the coming weeks.
During this forthcoming visit, the two sides are expected to delve into a range of topics related to political and economic cooperation, providing a fitting platform to bolster their bilateral ties.
Hussein also hinted at the possibility of convening a joint Iraqi-Russian committee meeting on the sidelines of Prime Minister Al-Sudani’s visit to Moscow.
Minister Lavrov expressed Russia’s keen interest in fostering stronger relations with Iraq and eagerly anticipated the impending visit of the Iraqi Prime Minister to Moscow, which is poised to reinforce the diplomatic connection between the two countries in the near future.
