Khammouane Provincial Authorities conducted a significant operation, culminating in the destruction of confiscated firearms and prohibited items. The event was presided over by Mr. Vanxay Phongsavanh, the Provincial Governor, and attended by Colonel Thipphachanh Phoxay, Director of Khammouane Provincial Police Command and Colonel Khamsing Nonthasone, Deputy Director of Khammouane Provincial Police Command.
The crackdown, a joint effort involving various government agencies, aimed to curb the reckless use of firearms and hunting weapons. The authorities successfully collected a substantial quantity of illegal items, including 194 firearms (85 rifles and 109 handguns), 2,593 hunting weapons, 67 electrofishing batteries and 20 electrofishing devices.
During the ceremony, Colonel Khamsing emphasized the necessity of these actions in light of incidents of gun violence that have threatened lives and property. Notably, two shootings in early September resulted in fatalities and severe injuries in the Bokeo and Bolikhamxay provinces.
To underscore their commitment to citizens’ safety, the province destroyed 2,593 hunting weapons, 387 guns, 67 electrofishing batteries and 20 electrofishing devices. The remaining confiscated items were handed over to relevant parties for management, ensuring dangerous weapons are removed from circulation.
