Ofir Libstein, who served as the mayor of Sha’ar HaNegev Regional Council, tragically lost his life during the recent attacks carried out by the Palestinian Islamist group Hamas on Israel this past Saturday, as reported by the Times of Israel.
Mayor Libstein was fatally injured while bravely defending a town against a “terrorist attack,” as confirmed by his office. In the wake of his tragic passing, Deputy Mayor Yossi Keren will assume the responsibilities of the mayor’s position.
This development occurred following an incursion by Palestinian gunmen, who crossed the border and launched a substantial volley of rockets originating from the Gaza Strip.
Israel’s military declared a state of preparedness, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu convening an emergency meeting of security officials.
