Russia and U.S. maintain open communication channels, says Russian Deputy FM

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov has confirmed that communication channels between Russia and the United States remain open, despite ongoing tensions between the two nations.

Speaking during a broadcast on the state-owned Rossiya-1 television channel, Ryabkov emphasized the importance of maintaining diplomatic contacts, particularly during times of crisis.

The deputy foreign minister outlined several avenues through which the two countries continue to engage, including presidential administrations, intelligence services, and diplomatic agencies. He stressed that these contacts occur regularly, underscoring their significance in the current geopolitical climate.

Ryabkov highlighted the critical role of these communication channels in preventing misunderstandings and potential escalations. We should not find ourselves in a situation where we are working with a black box, where some impulses come from our side inside and the output is zero, he explained.

The senior diplomat also emphasized the continued importance of ambassadors and embassies in facilitating bilateral relations. Despite acknowledging that diplomatic demarches may be viewed differently by various parties, Ryabkov insisted that they remain an important element of the overall work, especially in the current crisis period.

This revelation comes at a time of heightened global tensions, particularly concerning the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. While relations between Moscow and Washington have been strained, Ryabkov’s comments suggest a commitment to maintaining open lines of communication to manage potential risks and misunderstandings.

As the international community closely watches the dynamics between these two global powers, the maintenance of these communication channels could play a crucial role in navigating the complex geopolitical landscape and potentially preventing further escalation of existing conflicts.
