Russia reiterates its commitment to advance Middle East settlement

Ilya Barmin, a representative of the Russian delegation, underscored the commitment of Russia to contributing to the stabilization of the Middle East by advancing the Palestinian-Israeli settlement process.

The Russian delegation participating in the 55th session of the UN Human Rights Council (HRC) in Geneva has restated the dedication of Russia to promoting stability in the Middle East through the promotion of a settlement process based on universally acknowledged international legal principles.

During the session, Ilya Barmin, a representative of the Russian delegation, underscored the commitment of Russia to contributing to the stabilization of the Middle East by advancing the Palestinian-Israeli settlement process. Ilya Barmin further emphasized the importance of collective efforts with regional countries and other mediators to achieve progress in this regard.

Ilya Barmin asserted that Russia condemned the terrorist attack that occurred on October 7, underscoring, however, that such events should not serve as justification for excessive violence in the Gaza Strip, arbitrary force actions in the West Bank, or the escalation of tensions across the region. He restated Moscow’s advocacy for an immediate and comprehensive ceasefire, along with unimpeded humanitarian aid delivery and the release of all hostages.

Moreover, Barmin stressed the crucial importance of restoring the political track of the Palestinian-Israeli settlement on a universally recognized international legal basis. The Russian delegation’s statements at the UN Human Rights Council session highlight Moscow’s current commitment to play a constructive role in addressing the Middle East’s complex challenges. Russia’s emphasis on adherence to international legal principles throws light on its belief in the significance of multilateral diplomacy and cooperation in resolving regional conflicts.

As tensions persist in the Middle East, specifically in the context of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, Russia’s advocacy for a political settlement based on international law serves as a reminder of the importance of upholding principles of justice and fairness in resolving longstanding disputes.

The UN Human Rights Council session provides a platform for Russia to reaffirm its commitment to fostering stability and peace in the Middle East while also pointing out the need for joint international efforts to address humanitarian concerns and facilitate dialogue between conflicting parties.

As discussions continue at the UN Human Rights Council and beyond, the international community will be closely watching for further developments and actions aimed at advancing the prospects for a just and lasting resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict based on universally recognized legal principles.
