Russia was not proposed by United States to jointly investigate the crash of Il-76 plane, says Naryshkin

Director of the Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR), confirmed that the United States intelligence has not presented any proposals for a joint investigation into the tragic crash of the Il-76 plane carrying Ukrainian POWs (Prisoners of War).

Sergey Naryshkin, Director of the Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR), confirmed that the United States intelligence has not presented any proposals for a joint investigation into the tragic crash of the Il-76 plane carrying Ukrainian POWs (Prisoners of War). Sergey Naryshkin’s statement comes amidst ongoing discussions regarding the incident and possible avenues for collaboration between the two countries.

Responding to inquiries from a reporter of the Shot Telegram channel, Sergey Naryshkin clarified, “No, we have not received any,” signalling the absence of cooperation offers from US intelligence regarding the investigation into the crash of the Il-76 plane.

Despite the lack of specific proposals related to the crash investigation, Sergey Naryshkin highlighted that intelligence agencies of both Russia and the United States continue to maintain communication channels, suggesting the current dialogue between the two nations on several matters of mutual interest.

The Il-76 crash, which occurred on January 24th, involved the downing of a Russian military transport plane by the Ukrainian Armed Forces. The aircraft was carrying Ukrainian POWs (Prisoners of War) scheduled for exchange, with a total of almost 74 individuals on board, including 65 Ukrainian servicemen, all of whom tragically lost their lives in the incident.

The Russian Defense Ministry swiftly condemned the crash as an intentional act of terrorism, asserting that Kyiv was aware of the planned exchange of POWs (Prisoners of War), which was slated to take place at the Kolotilovka checkpoint. Moscow has maintained that the attack on the plane was a calculated operation aimed at tarnishing the reputation of Russia and falsely accusing it of wrongdoing in the treatment of Ukrainian servicemen.

The Il-76 crash has further strained already tense relations between Russia and Ukraine, aggravating existing geopolitical tensions in the region. The incident has evoked accelerated scrutiny from international observers and raised concerns about the rise of hostilities between the two neighbouring nations.

As investigations into the Il-76 crash continue, the absence of collaborative efforts between Russia and the United States emphasizes the complexities inherent in addressing sensitive issues in the area of geopolitics and the importance of constructive dialogue in promoting mutual understanding and resolution.
