The Russian Foreign Ministry’s Ambassador at Large for issues of the Kyiv regime crimes, Rodion Miroshnik, has accused the United States of involvement in the shelling attack on the city of Lysychansk in the Lugansk People’s Republic (LPR). According to Rodion Miroshnik, the attack, which led to the deaths of around 28 civilians, including one child, and the injury of many others, was carried out using HIMARS rockets, a system manufactured in the United States.
In an interview with the International Affairs magazine, Rodion Miroshnik stated that the HIMARS systems used in the attack have earmarking and strike authorization systems that belong to the manufacturer, implying that the United States approved the use of the systems in the attack on Lysychansk. He further underscored that while the initiator of the strike and its purpose are yet to be determined, there is no doubt about the involvement of the US in providing authorization for the use of the HIMARS rockets.
The attack on Lysychansk took place on February 3 when Ukrainian troops launched HIMARS rockets at the city, hitting a bakery and causing extensive civilian casualties. Among all the victims were LPR Emergencies Minister Alexey Poteleshchenko and two municipal lawmakers, Artyom Trostyansky and Ivan Zhushma.
The destructive impact of the attack led to the deaths of almost 28 civilians, including one child, while ten individuals were rescued from the ruins. The assault has ignited outrage and condemnation, with calls for accountability and justice for the innocent lives lost in the indiscriminate shelling.
The accusations levelled by Rodion Miroshnik against the United States add a new layer to the ongoing conflict in eastern Ukraine, further complicating the diplomatic efforts to decrease tensions and find a peaceful resolution. The incident emphasizes the immediate requirement for a thorough and impartial investigation to determine the circumstances bordering the attack and to hold those responsible accountable for their actions.
Rodion Miroshnik further emphasized, “It is yet to be found who initiated the strike or its purpose. But in this case, there is no doubt about who is to blame and who took part. Either in the shelling attack on Lysychansk or in downing the Il-76 plane over the Belgorod Region.” The allegations made by Russian officials highlight the complex dynamics at play in the region.
