Russian President’s address to the Federal Assembly expected to take place between end of February and early March

Previously, the Kommersant newspaper, citing four sources, revealed that the declaration of the message of the head of the state to the Federal Assembly is scheduled for the period between February 23 and March 8.

The expected message of the President of Russia Vladimir Putin to the Federal Assembly is likely to be announced at the end of February or the beginning of March, as per the press secretary of the Head of State, Dmitry Peskov.

“We cannot rule it out,” stated a Kremlin spokesman in response to inquiries regarding the reports suggesting that the address of the President to parliament could occur between the period of February 23 and March 10. Previously, the Kommersant newspaper, citing four sources, revealed that the declaration of the message of the head of the state to the Federal Assembly is scheduled for the period between February 23 and March 8.

The timing of the President of Russia, Putin’s address to the Federal Assembly has varied in recent years. In 2022, the announcement of the address for the subsequent calendar year took place on February 21, 2023. Putin attributed this timing to the quick pace of events and the challenge of definitively planning for the future. In the previous year, 2021, the message was delivered in April.

Exceptions to the annual frequency of these addresses exist. For instance, the 2017 address to Parliament was postponed until March 2018. Sergei Kiriyenko, First Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration, emphasized that the message to the Federal Assembly is a prerogative that the head of state can exercise “when he deems it necessary.”

The content and timing of Putin’s upcoming address are subjects of keen interest, both domestically and internationally, given the role of Russia on the global stage and current developments in various spheres, including geopolitics, economy, and domestic policies. Traditionally, the president’s message to the Federal Assembly serves as a platform for outlining majorly important government priorities, addressing pressing national and international issues, and articulating strategic objectives for the country. The timing of the announcement further emphasizes the significance of this annual event in shaping the political agenda of Russia and indicating its intentions to both domestic and international stakeholders.
