Schools in Ahmedabad receive bomb threats days after Delhi hoax

Last week, nearly 200 schools across the national capital region were put on high alert after receiving fake bomb threat emails. The Delhi Police carried out extensive checks and sweeps with the help of dog squads and bomb disposal teams.

Just days after a hoax bomb threat caused widespread panic across schools in Delhi and its surrounding areas, several schools in Ahmedabad, Gujarat today received threatening emails warning of bomb threats.

According to preliminary reports, at least three schools in one of Gujarat’s largest cities received these threatening emails. The news comes close on the heels of the Delhi bomb scare incident earlier this month.

The Delhi Bomb Scare

Last week, nearly 200 schools across the national capital region were put on high alert after receiving fake bomb threat emails. The Delhi Police carried out extensive checks and sweeps with the help of dog squads and bomb disposal teams.

After thorough searches, the threats were declared hoaxes aimed at creating mass panic and disturbing public order in Delhi. An FIR was registered under relevant IPC sections pertaining to criminal intimidation, promoting enmity, and criminal conspiracy.

Investigation Underway

The Delhi Police’s Special Cell found foreign links to the hoax emails received by Delhi schools. The threatening emails were sent from the ID ‘[email protected]’, a Russian mailing service.

This week, the Delhi Police approached Mail.ru via Interpol to trace the exact source of the emails. They have also sought assistance from the CBI to obtain information through Interpol channels regarding these threats.

The perpetrator had used a virtual private network (VPN) to hide their identity and location while sending the mass emails. Authorities are working to trace the IP address of the device used.

Disruptions and Panic

In Delhi, the hoax bomb threats led to the suspension of classes as panicked parents rushed to schools to pick up their children. This sudden influx also caused minor traffic disruptions around various school areas.

The incident highlighted the potential for such threats to create chaos and disrupt normal life, even when they turn out to be hoaxes. Investigations into the Delhi case are still ongoing.

The recent bomb threats to schools in Ahmedabad have once again raised concerns about the security preparedness and response protocols of educational institutions in handling such situations. Authorities will be on high alert as they investigate the source and motive behind these latest threats.
