Taiwan’s defense minister expresses concern over heightened Chinese military activities near Taiwan

The escalating frequency of China’s military maneuvers in close proximity to Taiwan has prompted Taiwan’s defense minister to voice apprehensions about the potential for incidents to spiral out of control, possibly leading to inadvertent confrontations.

Over the past fortnight, Taiwan has reported a surge in the presence of Chinese military assets, encompassing fighter aircraft, drones, bombers, warships, and even the Chinese aircraft carrier, the Shandong, operating in the vicinity.

China, which regards democratically governed Taiwan as an integral part of its territory, has consistently conducted such exercises around the island in recent years. These actions serve as a means for Beijing to assert its territorial claims and exert pressure on Taipei.
