Prime Minister Xanana Gusmao of Timor-Leste expressed admiration for China’s role in addressing global challenges and fostering world peace during his speech at Zhejiang Gongshang University in Hangzhou. He praised China for supporting multilateralism, international cooperation, and sustainable development.
Gusmao highlighted China’s Global Security Initiative and Global Development Initiative, which align with Timor-Leste’s values of peace, development, openness, cooperation, unity, and justice. He emphasized the need for a new international order based on human solidarity and shared prosperity, advocating for support to help fragile states build resilience and stability.
Gusmao also lauded the Belt and Road Initiative for contributing to global development and peace, especially in neglected regions, and emphasized the importance of global development initiatives in realizing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
