Tragedy Strikes As Train Collision Claims 15 Lives In Bangladesh

Officials in Bangladesh have verified a train crash that occurred on Monday, resulting in a devastating incident with at least fifteen fatalities and multiple injuries. This event unfolded when a passenger train and a freight train collided in Bhairab, a location approximately 80 kilometers (50 miles) from the capital city of Dhaka.

The collision occurred when a cargo train heading to Chattogram collided violently with the Dhaka-bound Egaro Sindur Express.

“We have recovered 15 bodies, many of whom were injured,” Sadiqur Rahman, a government administrator in Bhairab, told AFP. Rahman predicted that “the death toll will rise,” and rescuers reported that they were still able to see the victims crushed and trapped beneath wrecked trains. He also added that at least a hundred people have been injured.

Upon reaching the scene, firefighters initiated rescue operations. Mosharraf Hossain, the supervisor of the Bhairab Fire Station, expressed concerns that the casualty count could increase. He mentioned that rescue teams and residents had launched a rescue operation and had recovered the remains of at least 12 individuals.
